The power of God in the gospel reshapes stewardship.
- GIVE with joy & love
- SERVE others’ needs & interests
MANAGE time, talents & treasures
At CFCC, the gospel of Jesus Christ is our message and our mission. The gospel changes everything. Beginning with our relationship with God and impacting our relationship with others, the work of the Holy Spirit yields “…love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…”(Galatians 5:22-23).
An indicator of the transformative work of God in the disciple’s life is stewardship.
Disciples of Jesus are increasingly wise and generous with the resources God has given them. We have all been richly blessed, even if we aren’t wealthy in our finances. As we grow in our faith, we see our treasure, time and talents as part of our joyful response to the gospel. As Christ so leads, we offer them up: we GIVE of our treasures with a joyful heart, we SERVE the needs of others, and we MANAGE our resources with wisdom, avoiding foolish waste and consumerism.
We GIVE the first fruits of our income. The maturing disciple is less focused on the minimum percentage he is required give, but more focused on reducing the percentage he requires to live. The ten percent called for in the Old Testament isn’t a binding law upon the church, but serves as a guide from which to start. It is a decision made in the heart of a person who is increasingly focused on the glory of God and the needs of others. Therefore, we GIVE out of love, as “cheerful givers” (2 Corinthians 9:7-9).
At no time, should our giving be at the expense of managing for our needs or the needs of our family. In fact, the wisdom to manage one’s time, talents, and treasures enables us to be strategic and purposeful when it comes to sharing with others. The mark of a growing disciple, then, is evidenced by how we manage the resources God has given us. Seeing them as gifts from God is the first step. God has given us all good things (James 1:16-17). Our efforts to manage them well is consistent with our desire to honor God and enjoy God in all that we have and do.
At CFCC, you are free to give via the weekly offering in the service, by mailing your contribution to the office, or through online giving. We welcome you to give whatever God has called you to give, however God has called you to give it.
In our digital age, when people are increasingly paying bills and conducting commerce online, CFCC has chosen to make online giving available to those who are interested. The technology that permits online transactions via debit cards also permits giving via credit cards and makes no distinction between the two. We strongly advise against putting tithes and offerings on their credit card unless they are able to pay it off each month because we do not want God's people going into debt.
